Unaccredited College of Klaire
The Unaccredited College of Klaire (UCK) is Klaire Lockheart’s weird way of organizing the online art lessons she creates. Klaire loves teaching, and she wants to share her knowledge and expertise with others who are eager to learn about art. The UCK curriculum will grow over time to include video tutorials plus supportive critiques, and you can sign up through Patreon, which is a monthly subscription platform. The monthly fee is considerably more affordable than any regular art school tuition, plus you’ll get to work through projects you chose at your own pace. Furthermore, friends who don’t want to make art but do want to show support can subscribe to the UCK mailing list.
FAQs
Who should enroll at UCK?
If you have an interest in art beyond wine and canvas night, the lessons Klaire creates are for you! She designs her online tutorials for adults who enjoy art, and she has a habit of over-explaining complicated steps so beginners (or people who have taken a break from art) will be able to learn without feeling overwhelmed. These classes are perfect if you’ve always wanted to continue your art education or you’re just curious about Klaire’s art-making knowledge and techniques.
If Klaire earned her MFA and has taught undergraduate and graduate classes at accredited universities, why is her program unaccredited?
It’s true that Klaire has taught graduate and undergraduate drawing, painting, Modern Art history, and figure drawing at accredited universities. (Check out her CV to verify her qualifications.) She has also assisted an art department at a university through their accreditation process, but she certainly doesn’t take herself seriously enough to even pretend that this is a real college that offers credits you could use towards a degree.
Is Klaire self-absorbed? Why did she name the school after herself?
Klaire thinks she is hilarious and enjoys that the acronym for her school is “UCK,” because “uck… don’t go into debt up to your eyeballs paying for college.”
If I sign up to become a Subversive Scholar on Patreon, will I be graded?
No. The points are made up and grades don’t matter. Klaire understands that in the long run, grades are unimportant and the artwork you create is what makes a difference in the the world and your career. Seriously, no one cares about your GPA; just make cool art.
What are the benefits of joining the Board of Regents?
Update your CV or résumé and include that you serve on the Board of Regents at the Unaccredited College of Klaire! Do it! Won’t that look impressive? If you ask nicely, Klaire will probably write you a letter of recommendation verifying that you serve on the board. Additionally, the UCK Board of Regents gives you the opportunity to have one-on-one studio visits/online meetings with Klaire, who will offer you supportive feedback. (Furthermore, the Board of Regents is also an appealing option for wonderful people who want to support Klaire as an artist because they enjoy seeing her artwork and they want to brag that they are her patron.)
What's that mermaid guy in the UCK logo?
The official mascot of the Unaccredited College of Klaire is the ichthyocentaur. This is a mythical character from Ancient Greece that is half-mermaid, half-centaur, and all-awesome!
