Klaire A. Lockheart is a painter based in South Dakota, and she often creates representational portraits of women with oil on canvas. Lockheart enjoys using the human form as a vehicle to communicate the agency of her subjects with viewers. In addition to addressing femininity and feminism within her artwork, she enjoys incorporating humor to make serious subjects approachable. Her life-sized portraits and have been selected in regional and national shows hosted by the Old Courthouse Arts Center in Woodstock, IL, the Ritz Gallery in Brookings, SD, and the Buena Vista University Gallery in Storm Lake, IA. Lockheart won the Juror’s Choice award for Ripple Effect at the Washington Pavilion in 2018 and she was awarded the People’s Choice Award in the 23rd Annual Juried Exhibition at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, MN. She is the South Dakota artist for the national Her Flag collaborative artwork.
