My oil on canvas artwork called Bro Sketch with Gold Curtain will be included as part of the Bemis Center’s 2025 Benefit Art Auction. The art show opens October 10th and ends during the auction on Friday, October 24th at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, 724 S. 12th Street Omaha, Nebraska. This is a fun event for art collectors to support contemporary artists along with the Bemis. I made this small study as part of my series of Brodalisques, where I paint dudes in man caves. Beginning October 1st, Bro Sketch with Gold Curtain will be available to purchase online.
My little oil on canvas painting titled Grande Bro Sketch with Atari will be part of the Bemis Center’s 2025 Benefit Art Auction. The exhibition opens October 10th and closes during the art auction on October 24th at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, 724 S. 12th Street Omaha, Nebraska. Art collectors at this event will support the participating artists along with the Bemis. I created this artwork in preparation for a large oil painting called Grande Brodalisque II, which I made when I received the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. Grande Bro Sketch with Atari will be available to purchase online beginning October 1st.
How’s it going, my saucy and sinister sisters? Please tell me that photographer Aaron C Packard and I aren’t the only two people who watched Pastacolypse (2023)! After breaking down the plot to this short animated movie, we discuss the feminine characters, Italian food, and Italian art. We also rate it on the Maenad-O-Meter before Sarah Bork receives her Honorary Doctor of Dystopian Studies degree from the Unaccredited College of Klaire.
If you’ve always wanted to start oil painting but never had the chance, or if you thought oil painting might be too difficult to try, allow me to peer-pressure you into painting with me. You can paint from your own location by watching this online video workshop I created for you called “Sketching with Oils.” It’s available through the Unaccredited College of Klaire. Take this opportunity to follow along with me step-by-step as I guide you through a practice sketch of a simple figure painting. I’ll demonstrate the process I used when I planned the paintings I created for the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. With guidance, you’ll tone a canvas and build up paint layers while developing safe studio habits. You’ll practice a general-to-specific painting technique, which is perfect for creating successful sketches that are reminiscent of an Impressionist style of art. You’re welcome to follow along with me to make the same composition, or you can use this workshop video as inspiration for you own original artwork.
I want you to listen to the episode about Mary Cassatt on the Art Slice podcast hosted by Stephanie Dueñas and Russell Shoemaker. Not only will you get to learn about this Impressionist painter's radical artwork, but you’ll get to hear my voice. I enjoyed providing the definition of “Triptych” for panty segment on the “Mary Cassatt’s Lost Mural: A Reimagining of Eve, Special Guest Klaire Lockheart” episode.
How’s it going, my sassy survivors of solitude? Sarah Isak-Goode and I watched Night of the Comet (1984) so we could explore the concept of the “American girl” stereotype in regards to this cheesy B-movie for the Femininity in the Post-Apocalypse podcast. We also discuss teenage rebellion alongside the American nuclear family before rating the film on the Maenad-O-Meter. Additionally, Jamie R. Waters receives her Honorary Doctor of Dystopian Studies degree from the Unaccredited College of Klaire.
Who’s ready to paint some people? Even if you don’t have time to make art, but you just want to learn about mixing colors, join me as I share how to create a range of skin tones in this “Mixing Skin Tone Colors” demonstration. Using only primary colors, white, and brown, you’ll learn how to create human-colored paint ranging from very light to very dark brown. (I use oil paint in my demonstration, but this technique is applicable for acrylics too.) You can see the entire video at the Unaccredited College of Klaire.
If you have a messy project coming up, allow me to quickly demonstrate how to prepare rags for use in the studio or elsewhere. This “Chopping up Rags” will guide you through the steps on how to cut up an old t-shirt to make cotton rags. Additionally, I’ll explain why cotton rags are useful to have on hand and why I use them whilst painting. You can watch entire video a the Unaccredited College of Klaire.
If you’re ready to start stretching your own canvases, let me help you! I created a video tutorial called “Stretch a Canvas,” which is available at the Unaccredited College of Klaire on Patreon. I demonstrate the entire process of stretching a canvas in real time so you can see an example of what a high quality canvas should look like.
Aaron and I are thrilled to share the “Bro Interview Game” on the Klaire and Aaron Show in the “Subdued Dudes and Interviews” episode. The game culminated in this video of our wonderful friends speaking about the artwork in the Subdued Dudes art exhibition. These subversive figure paintings were created with generous support from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the suits were purchased from Shinesty.
