Historic Portraits from the Future
My paintings are representational to invoke a sense of timelessness, and they are easily relatable for viewers. I use oil on canvas, Rembrandt lighting, and traditional poses to place my subjects within the historical context of portraiture. I collaborated with Aaron C. Packard to create photographic pigment prints to complement my paintings. Each composition includes my oil on canvas portrait and Packard’s archival pigment print.
Our subjects are important and deserve recognition. The final artwork includes three representations of the subject, which is a direct reference to the concept of conceptual art. Additionally, we created faux-gilded frames to make these contemporary portraits appear ready to hang in ostentatious museum collections.
